In 2022, Dave was inducted into the Mound Westonka 2022 Athletic Hall of Fame:  

• Dave was a four-year letter winner at Mound High School in boys tennis, golf and basketball. He also lettered one year in football as quarterback, which led to a full-ride scholarship at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois.

• He was the captain of both the basketball and football teams in his senior year.

• Dave was the winner of the Yost Award in 1960 as the outstanding senior male athlete at MHS.

Dave never missed one of his children's games while they attended Mound Westonka High School. His grandchildren also had their proud grandfather in the stands for every game.
