Westonka Alpine Information, 2022

The Westonka Alpine Ski Team is a cooperative consisting of Mound Westonka, Waconia, Holy Family, Southwest Christian and Providence Academy. The team is made up of male and female racers in grades 8-12 (7th graders can participate with coach approval).

This year’s Parent Meeting/Taco Night will take place at Mound Westonka High School in the cafeteria from 6-9pm on TUESDAY OCTOBER 19th. Parents and racers are encouraged to attend.

Team Fees / Other Costs:

After registration with your school, a team fee for each athlete is due to Westonka Alpine. That fee is $275. This fee covers the costs of equipment, administration of the team, events, and misc expenses throughout the season. Students from partner schools must also register with Mound Westonka and pay a $45.00 administrative/transportation fee.

In addition to the team fee, each athlete should purchase a season pass at Hyland Hills Ski area. You can purchase this online through the Three Rivers Park District Website. Make sure to have your pass picture taken ASAP. We will not be able to wait for your racer on the first day of skiing while they get this taken care of. Consider making arrangements over the Thanksgiving weekend to get this taken care of.

There will be a few days that will require a day ticket at away races. Those ticket prices are set by the various ski areas. Budget $100 for the season.

We practice at Hyland on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6pm. Busing is provided from MWHS with a stop at Holy Family. If that doesn’t work for your racer, you need to make arrangements for them to get to the ski hill.

Races take place on weekdays. We are finalizing our participation in a conference this coming season. As soon as we have the details we will get that to you right away.

The MSHSL requires all racers to wear a helmet. I suggest a hard sided, race specific helmet with a chin guard. SL skis with a 12 meter radius are ideal. Skis with a larger radius will limit your racers progress.

Any additional questions will be answered at Taco Night or you can call Coach Jay Johnson directly at 612-269-9266.
