The White Hawks traveled to Delano on Jan. 25 and faced Richfield at home on Jan. 27.

The White Hawks boys basketball team took the show on the road on Jan. 25 and traveled to Delano. The Tigers have a solid guard crew, but the White Hawks went into the matchup with a solid game plan.

The White Hawks continued to execute their plan in the first half and went into halftime down by 7. Delano countered with hot 3-point shooting, ending the game 15-34 from deep. Westonka continued to play with a lot of energy in the second half but was unable to slow down the Tigers' outside shooting with a final score of 90-66 Tigers.

Junior Matthew Mobagi led the way with 17 points for the White Hawks. Congratulations to juniors Lane Gordon and Isaac Aud for scoring their first varsity basketball points.

An afternoon home game on Jan. 27 was next on the White Hawks' schedule. The Richfield Spartans were there for the matchup. With captains junior Max Kraay and senior Carter Reinbold on the bench with injuries, the White Hawks were up for a battle.

The first half started with both teams figuring out the strategy that would work best. Strong communication and effort defensively kept the White Hawks only down three points to the Spartans at halftime, 27-30, despite several turnovers and offensive rebounds given up.

The White Hawks came out flying in the second half with senior Bryce Tappen shooting well from 3, leading the team in scoring with 17 points. Westonka trimmed down the turnovers, which led to 42 points scored in the second half. The White Hawks led most of the second half and were clinging to a one-point lead with seven seconds left. However, the Spartans had the answer, getting fouled with two seconds left in the game and making both free throws to secure the victory, 70-69.

Junior Cole Drill recorded a double-double, Mobagi scored 16 points, and junior Jacob Orenge recorded six assists.
