The Mound Westonka Dance Team was named Conference Champion in both jazz and kick at the Wright County Conference Championships Jan. 20 at Mound Westonka High School.
The Hawkettes had 10 All-Conference and All-Conference Honorable Mention award winners.
The Mound Westonka Dance Team hosted the Wright County Conference Dance Team Championships on Jan. 20. The Hawkettes took top honors in both Jazz and Kick to be named Overall Conference Champion.
Saturday's competition was the team's third conference meet of the season. The Hawkettes took first place at the WCC Kick meet in Hutchinson on Dec. 14 and also placed first at the WCC Jazz meet in Rockford on Jan. 11. At both of these meets, the team scored the highest points in school history for each of the respective categories.
Six Hawkettes dancers earned All-Conference recognition: seniors Marissa Nelson, Ada Bedell, Sophia Louricas and Maddie Bozikowski and juniors Alexa Leonard and Ali Ogle. Additionally, seniors Cassie Nemecek, Makenna Seitz and Maisie Wheeler and junior Madeline Witte earned All-Conference Honorable Mention.
Next up this Saturday, Jan. 27, the Hawkettes will perform in their final invitational of the season at Delano High School. Then on Saturday, Feb. 10, the Hawkettes will compete in the Section 3AA Tournament held at Bloomington Kennedy High School with hopes of advancing to the MSHSL State Tournament in both Jazz and Kick.
