The Mound Westonka math league team, led by captains junior Rohan Nella and senior Ingrid Wulf, is having a tremendous season thus far. With four out of five meets in the books, they are currently at the top of the leaderboard in both their section and division.

MWHS is in first place with a cumulative season score of 241 points. The team scored a season high (and school record) 67 points in the fourth meet on Jan. 23 and is gearing up for the fifth and final meet of the season on Feb. 12.

Much of the team’s success this year stems from a core group of senior leaders: Cormac Schaefer, Anna Wood and Ingrid Wulf. These seniors bring talent, experience, organization and encouragement to the team, as well as some big numbers on the scoreboard. Their flexibility in pivoting to different events and topics as needed for the team has been invaluable.

In addition to the seniors, the team has a deep pool of skilled mathematicians from the younger grades. Juniors Tanner Blume, Luke Carlson, Tor Erdahl, Rohan Nella and Jagger Wittine have been at the top of their game, with Nella currently in first place overall in the division and Blume in third place. Sophomores Sam Fleener and Leon Kravchenko, along with ninth graders James Marth and Henry Rugemer and eighth grader Zach VanNelson, have all contributed greatly to the team and round out the stellar crew marching to the finish line. It’s been a  grueling but highly successful season, and these mathletes have truly put in the work.

Best of luck in meet #5 where the top team earns a spot in the state tournament!
