The Minnesota Section 6AA cross country meet was held at Collinwood Park on Oct. 26. Mound Westonka is excited to announce that ninth grader Sophie Engesser qualified for the state meet!

The White Hawks went into the section meet knowing they faced tough competition and some of the fastest runners in the state. They also faced some rainy and chilly weather, but both teams pulled together with great races and celebrated a wonderful season.

For the varsity girls, the White Hawks were very proud to see Engesser earn her way to state with a 12-place finish and a time of 20:33. The team ran a great race, with ninth grader Anna Regenold (20:58) making the top 20 in 17th place, followed by junior Audrey Kirscht (21:12), sophomore Emma Andrev (21:45), junior Brooke Garlock (22:10), senior captain Cassie Nemecek (22:16) and seventh grader Lydia Engesser (22:55). Overall the team placed fourth out of 11 teams with the Delano team winning the meet.

The varsity boys team took seventh out of 11 teams with the Orono team winning the meet. Senior captain Charlie Paul was the first White Hawk to cross with a time of 18:04, followed by junior Isaac Hays only seconds behind (18:06). Senior captain Brandon Knock (18:30), junior Andrew Finley (18:44), sophomore Luke Sunnarborg (18:45), sophomore Noah Huesmann (18:58) and ninth grader Owen Trost (19:08) completed this strong team.

The team will cheer on Engesser at the state meet on Nov. 4 at the University of Minnesota, followed by their year end banquet on Nov. 5.

Good luck at state, Sophie!
