White Hawks Volleyball Goes 1-1 for the Week

The White Hawks opened the week at home against Richfield on Oct. 9 and celebrated the team's six seniors: Kendal Richie, Annika Weir, Maquinna Peglow, Marissa Nelson, Kohral Bomar-Reese and manager Sophia Draisey.

The White Hawks would beat Richfield in three sets (24-10, 25-13, 25-19). Five players would serve at 100 percent, while the White Hawks served 13 aces - including six by sophomore Avery Pearson! Four seniors had kills in this game, including three from Nelson, two each from M. Peglow and Weir, and one from Richie for a team total of 35 kills. Richie would lead the defense with 15 digs, and Pearson had 24 assists.

The White Hawks were on the road Tuesday to play the No. 2-ranked Delano Tigers. The Hawks had strong serving with three players serving at 100%: Wier, junior Mia Weaver, and sophomore Bridget Budzius. There would be five aces from five players: Wier, Weaver, Budzius, Pearson and Meaghan Kreiser. The offense was strong with 27 kills. Budzius had nine kills, followed by M. Peglow with five, Weaver and Kreiser each with four, three from middle Taryn Peglow, and two from sophomore Lexi Rehman (her first in the varsity lineup).

The Tigers are a strong offensive team, and it would be a busy night at the net. The White Hawks put up seven blocks, including two from T. Peglow. When the shot got through the block, it was often picked up by Richie or Weaver, who had 15 and seven digs, respectively. Sophomore Ashtyn Cupp had 14 assists to set up the hitters, but the White Hawks would fall in three sets (11-25, 17-25, 22-25).

Heading into a weekend tournament at Bloomington Jefferson, the White Hawks' record was 16-5. The final regular season game is Monday, Oct. 16 in St. Anthony. Playoffs will begin Wednesday, Oct. 25, opponent and location TBD.
