MWHF Girls Swim and Dive Competes at Dassel-Cokato

Catherine Dueck ruled the pool as Mound Westonka/Holy Family (MWHF) visited Dassel-Cokato on Sept. 7. Dueck, a team captain and senior at Holy Family Catholic High School, set a Dassel-Cokato pool record in the 200 Individual Medley with her first-place finish of 2:10.73. Dueck also won the 100 butterfly and participated on two winning relay teams. 

Junior captain Annemarie Johnson placed second behind Dueck in the 200 individual medley, with junior Grace Warden finishing third. Senior captail Abigail Ries finished third in the 100 butterfly. 

The first-place 200 freestyle relay team included Dueck, junior Peyton Schmidt, ninth-grader Jaylen Juras and junior Onna Sullivan (2:16.80). The team of Dueck, ninth-grader Kayla Quandt, Schmidt and Johnson won the 400 freestyle relay (3:59.08) ahead of teammates Warden, junior Camille Ness, Sullivan and Ries who finished second. 

Ness, Johnson, Warden and Juras took first place in the 200 medley relay (1:58.95) ahead of sophomore Amelia Olson, Ries, and ninth-graders Laney Hendrickson and Chella Patterson who finished second.  

MWHF swept the 100-, 200- and 500-yard freestyle events. Ness won the 100 freestyle (59.29) with Sullivan and Juras tied for second. Olson (2:16.80), Quandt and Schmidt finished first, second and third, respectively, in the 200 freestyle. Patterson (5:54.62), Olson and Quandt finished 1, 2 and 3 in the 500 freestyle. 

Hendrickson won the 50 freestyle (26.70) with Sullivan finishing second. Ness placed first in the 100 backstroke (1:07.25) ahead of Warden, who finished third. 

MWHF divers are off to a strong start with several high difficulty dives early in the season. Erica Johnson will be one to watch this season. Johnson won the diving event (200.45 points) with Jillian Schmitz finishing second. 

Next meets are Tuesday, Sept. 12 at Orono and Thursday, Sept. 14 at home vs. Litchfield.
