The Mound Westonka varsity girls tennis team started out the 2023 season by taking second in each of two tournaments.

First was the North-South Tournament, played in Park Rapids on Aug. 18. The White Hawks had three wins, beating Becker (5-2), Minnewaska (5-2) and Park Rapids (6-1), and lost a close one to Crookston (3-4). Two MWHS players, junior captain Savannah Paul at No. 1 singles and sophomore Susie Marth at No. 3 singles, went undefeated for the tournament.

On Monday, Aug. 21, the White Hawks hosted a doubles tournament against Waseca and Waconia. For each school, 18 girls competed as nine doubles teams. Mound Westonka again found themselves in second place, beating Waseca (8-1) but falling to Waconia (3-6). Impressive days were had by many, but especially two doubles teams comprised of senior captains Anna Wood/Camryn Winther at flight #2, and seniors Ally Eidsness/Camryn Hargreaves at flight #3.

Coach Rob Paul and coach Brent Reinbold were impressed with the girls’ training and dedication to the sport in the summer months. The team starts dual matches in week #2.
