Mound Westonka High School Theatre has been hard at work rehearsing the spring play, “The Play That Goes Wrong.” Casting took place before winter break in December, and the newly cast students began rehearsals the first week in January.

Co-written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, “The Play That Goes Wrong” is a riotous comedy about the theatre. The play introduces the Cornley Drama Society, who are attempting to put on a 1920s murder mystery, but as the title suggests, everything that can go wrong does, as the accident-prone thespians battle on against all odds to get to their final curtain call.

“Break a leg!” takes on a whole new meaning for a woefully misguided troupe of players at the Cornley University Society’s opening night performance of “The Murder at Haversham Manor.” An unconscious leading lady, a corpse who can’t play dead, a ruffled detective, and a word-mangling butler (among others), must battle against technical gaffes, forgotten lines, and sabotaged scenery in a quest to arrive all in one piece at the final curtain call. Part Monty Python, part Sherlock Holmes, all mayhem—this 1920s whodunit is disastrously delightful.

The cast includes eight ensemble members playing actors from the Cornley Drama Society who are playing characters in the story of “The Murder at Haversham Manner.”
