Hawkettes to Make 17th Consecutive Trip to State

The Mound Westonka High School Hawkettes Dance Team is headed to state for the 17th consecutive year.

The Mound Westonka High School Hawkettes Dance Team is once again headed to the state tournament. Following a sweep of the Wright County Conference competition in January, the MWHS varsity kick team was named Section Champion at the 3AA Dance Team Tournament on Feb. 4, and the varsity jazz team took second place. This will be the Hawkettes' 17th consecutive trip to state.

The state jazz dance tournament will be held at Target Center in Minneapolis on Friday, Feb. 17. The Hawkettes take the floor at approximately 2:24 p.m. The Class AA jazz finalists will be announced at 4:15 p.m. and will compete starting at 7:15 Friday night.

The state high kick tournament will be held at Target Center on Saturday, Feb. 18. The Hawkettes take the floor at approximately 2:00 p.m. The Class AA kick finalists will be announced at 4:15 p.m. and will compete starting at 7:15 Saturday night.

All ticket purchases are online. General admission tickets for the tournament can be purchased at www.mshsl.org/tickets ($17.50 for adults and $11.50 for students, including taxes and fees). Please review the MSHSL spectator guide for more details.

Hawkettes Dancers Earn Conference, State Honors

Six MWHS dancers earned special recognition at the Jan. 21 Wright County Conference Championships, where the Hawkettes earned first place in both jazz and high kick and were named overall conference champions. Seniors Kendall Schissler, Hannah Hunter, Josie Moen and Avery Roerig, and juniors Sophia Louricas and Marissa Nelson earned All-Conference honors at the meet.

Additionally, Schissler and Hunter have been named to the All-State Jazz Dance Team, and Moen and Roerig landed spots on the All-State Kick Team. The four student-athletes will perform March 11 at Edina High School as part of their respective groups.
