Westonka participated in the 2021 Minnesota Nordic Ski Opener, which was held at Elm Creek Park Reserve on December 11. Both the high school and middle school teams participated in the event. Mound Westonka High School junior Ashton Demmer represented Westonka as the White Hawks mascot and skied with Goldy Gopher.
Coach Sue Harrison said, "It is a celebration of the beginning of the Nordic season, and we had beautiful new snow to kick off the event!"

The White Hawks ran into two MWHS graduates and former varsity skiers, Robbie Brustad and Carsten Doepner-Hove, who are now members of the University of Minnesota Nordic team.
