The Westonka/Watertown-Mayer boys hockey team held off a third-period rally by Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato on Tuesday, Jan. 6, winning in front of the home crowd by a goal.

After a scoreless first period, seniors Colton Decker, Logan Hill and Liam Grant all scored in a penalty-filled second period. Another goal from Hill at the top of the third gave the White Hawks a 4-0 lead. Then, the Dragons made three goals in quick succession, putting them down by one goal with five minutes left in regulation. The White Hawks held off the Dragon's offense to secure the conference win with a final score of 4-3.

Hill, Grant, senior Collin Hagen, juniors Beckett Poikonen and David Kalis, and sophomore Landon McGovern had one assist each. Cameron Kaluzne was in net.

The JV boys weren't so lucky. The White Hawks got on the board first, with a goal from junior Grady Olszewski. Another goal from Olszewski, plus ones from junior Jack Gerbig and sophomore Richie LeGrange put the score at 4-2 at the end of the first period. LeGrange scored again in the second period, but it would be the White Hawks' last of the game. Three unanswered points from LDC in the third period led to a Dragons win. The final score was 6-5.

Junior Anders Mjelstad had three assists for the night. Junior Brendan Rashleger and sophomores Aiden Huesmann, Jaxon Loycano and Richie LeGrange had one apiece. Sophomore Max Wolke was in net.

The White Hawks play again at home on Saturday, Jan. 10. JV takes on Orono at 1 p.m. The varsity game begins at 3 p.m.
