Senior Delaney Parker stands at the top of the podium after a dominant performance in the Monticello Girls Invite.
The Westonka White Hawks girls wrestling squad competed at the Monticello Girls Wrestling Invitational on December 19.
Due to illness and injury, the girls squad was down to two wrestlers, with sophomore Lilyanne Ray and senior Delaney Parker hitting the mats. Ray defeated her first round opponent by fall in the first period, lost by technical fall in the second round, and was eliminated in the third round, losing a tough-fought 9-7 decision. Parker went 4-0 with four first period pins to cruise to the championship, avenging a loss to Forest Lake’s Alexis Fahey in the finals. Fahey is currently ranked sixth in state.
“The girls wrestled well," said coach Todd Munsterteiger. "Lilyanne got a few much-needed full length matches, and Delaney dominated and regained some confidence."
The girls wrestling squad will resume action on Friday, January 2 when they compete in the Rumble on the Red in Fargo, ND.
