The Westonka girls wrestling team participated in the prestigious Hopkins Athena Girls Invitational December 15 in the Royals Activity Center at Hopkins High School. Nearly 700 girls participated, which was about one third of all girls wrestlers in the state.
Westonka High School senior Delaney Parker participated in the elite “A” division, and placed fifth in her bracket that included several top ranked wrestlers in the state. Westonka’s other three girls wrestled in the less-experienced “C” division. Junior Layla Monahan secured her first career victory and battled well in her other matches going 1-3 on the day. Junior CJ Richard had a tough opening round loss, but came back strong and won her last two matches to go 1-2. Sophomore Lilyanne Ray pinned her way through the tourney, going 4-0 to earn the championship.
