The White Hawks girls basketball team opened the 2025 season with a fresh look, a young roster, and the same determined spirit that has shaped the program under third-year head coach Caitlyn Sunder. After finishing last year 11–16 and graduating four seniors, the team enters this winter with no seniors on the varsity squad—yet early performances make one thing clear: this group is ready to compete.

The White Hawks began the season at .500, fueled by a competitive home opener against the Howard Lake–Waverly Lakers. A strong mix of returning contributors and promising underclassmen saw varsity minutes, offering an early glimpse of the team’s depth and potential.

Returning letter winners Charlotte Huls, Valerie Mobagi, Lizzy Nash, Eve Schupp, and Jamison Reinke anchored the lineup, while newcomers Keeley Zachow, Mariah Heitz, Grace Schrempp, and Shea Zachow made immediate contributions.

Home Opener Highlights

The night began with the Hawks falling behind by 12, but the momentum quickly shifted as the team regrouped and surged back into contention.

Offensively, Eve Schupp led the charge with 17 points, followed by Valerie Mobagi with 14 and Grace Schrempp with 13.

The Hawks were equally strong on the boards. Schupp dominated with 10 rebounds, while Mobagi added 7. Schrempp secured 6, and Zachow, Huls, and Nash added 5, 4, and 1 respectively.

At the point, Charlotte Huls directed the offense with precision, tallying 6 assists to go along with 2 steals. Mobagi delivered a standout all-around performance with 3 assists, 5 steals, and 3 blocks. Schupp showcased her defensive presence with 7 blocks, 3 assists, and 2 steals, while Zachow added 2 assists and 2 blocks. Nash and Schrempp each added steals as well, contributing to a complete defensive effort.

Road Test at Richfield

The Hawks’ first road challenge came at Richfield, where a relentless Spartan defense proved difficult to overcome. While Richfield built an early lead, the game also created valuable opportunities for the program’s youngest athletes.

Seventh-grader Stella Evanoff and eighth-graders Elle Paulson and Nellie Sewell all stepped onto the varsity court—experience that will pay dividends for seasons to come.

Program Momentum Continues

Despite the team’s youth, Coach Sunder remains encouraged by the group’s growth and competitive mindset.

“We continue to be a young team, but what we lack in experience, we make up for in grit and determination,” Sunder said. “We’ve improved our record in the two years I’ve been here—from only one win to 11 wins—and we plan to continue that progress this season.”

Joining Coach Sunder on the sidelines this year are coaches Meagan McKernon, Chris Heitz, and Brooke Berger, who will help guide and develop this promising roster.

With a lineup full of underclassmen, a coaching staff committed to long-term growth, and an early-season display of grit, the White Hawks are a team on the rise. The season may be young, but so are the Hawks—and their determination is already shining through.
