The Westonka volleyball team wrapped up a hard-fought season after a competitive playoff matchup against the Jordan Jaguars.  Competing in one of the state’s toughest sections, the White Hawks proved they could rise to the challenge and battle with heart. Facing a well-rounded, talented Jordan squad, the team displayed gritty defense, tough serving, and relentless effort throughout the match.

The Jaguars came out strong with a 25-10 win in set one. After battling in set two, Jordan ended the game with an impressive serving run, winning 25-14. The final set was back-and-forth until the Jaguars took the victory, 25-21. Although the White Hawks fell short in the postseason, the game showcased their determination, teamwork, and strong senior leadership.

The White Hawks were led by senior Bridget Budzius, who displayed all-around great leadership and composure. She contributed two aces, 10 digs and four kills. Senior Lexie Rehman was dominant at the net, providing the White Hawks with seven kills from the middle position, while also putting up a big block against the Jordan hitters. Senior Maria Neumann also provided firepower at the net, contributing six kills from the right side. Meaghan Kreiser added two kills and an ace, while also pulling the middle blocker to open up the other hitters. Ashtyn Cupp took charge directing her hitters and dishing out 15 assists. Lastly, seniors Lizzy Huls and Hannah Birkins provided the White Hawks with the passing and defense they needed to have an effective offense.

Despite the loss, this season was filled with memorable moments, steady improvement, and a lot of laughs. Head coach Ashley Schroeder said, “This was a phenomenal group of senior leaders.  We will not only miss their presence on the court, but also their work ethic and positive energy, off the court. They laid a great foundation for this program.”

As the season comes to a close, the White Hawks will celebrate their successes and honor their seniors. They ended with an 18-11 record and will graduate eight seniors. The end of season banquet will be held November 15 at Burl Oaks Golf Club.
