Westonka Volleyball Splits Busy Stretch; Budzius Hits 1,000 Dig Milestone

The Westonka White Hawks volleyball team continued their competitive stretch with a packed schedule.

The Westonka White Hawks volleyball team continued their competitive stretch with a packed schedule that included a strong showing at the Bloomington tournament over the weekend and a hard-fought match against Armstrong on Monday. Over five matches at the tournament, the White Hawks went 3-1-1, highlighted by a significant personal milestone for senior Bridget Budzius, who recorded her 1,000th career dig.

Throughout the weekend, Westonka demonstrated both depth and balance. Budzius led the team from the service line with eight aces, followed by Meaghan Kreiser with six, Lexie Rehman with five, and both Ashtyn Cupp and Hannah Birkins with four. Maria Neumann and Hayden Winther each added one. Rehman led all servers with a 97.3% accuracy, while Budzius and Winther both posted 90.91%.

In serve receive, Budzius posted a team-best 1.79, followed by Birkins at 1.68 and Lizzy Huls at 1.54. Defensively, Budzius led with 29 digs, trailed by Birkins with 24, Cupp with 20, and Shea Zachow with 16.

Offensively, Westonka found production across the board. Kreiser notched 25 kills, Rehman added 22, and Budzius contributed 19. Tappen and Kliebenstein chipped in with 14 and 12, respectively. Tappen hit at a team-best .429, with Kliebenstein was close behind at .391. At the net, Rehman led with seven blocks, Budzius had four, Tappen added three, while Kreiser, Hendrycks and Kliebenstein each had two.

Setting duties were shared between Cupp and Winther, who tallied 49 and 27 assists, respectively.

Coming off that momentum, Westonka returned to the court Monday night to face a tough Armstrong team. Despite a strong fight, the White Hawks fell 1-3, with set scores of 21-25, 25-15, 20-25, 20-25.

In the second set, Kreiser ignited a major run with eight consecutive serves, helping the White Hawks dominate that frame. She finished the match with six aces, while Rehman and Winther added two each, and Cupp had one. Both Kreiser and Rehman served at a perfect 100%, providing consistency under pressure.

Budzius again led in serve receive with a 2.0 rating, followed by Zachow at 1.94 and Birkins at 1.89. Budzius also led the offense with 11 kills, followed by Neumann with nine. Rehman added seven, Kreiser had six, Kliebenstein chipped in three, and Evelyn Hendrycks added two. Neumann was the most efficient hitter at .421, with Budzius close behind at .333.

Rehman led at the net with three blocks, Neumann and Tappen each had two, while Kreiser, Kliebenstein, and Hendrycks had one apiece. On the defensive end, Budzius and Cupp each tallied eight digs, Birkins and Zachow added seven, Winther had five, and Kliebenstein chipped in two.

Setting duties were once again split, with Cupp dishing out 19 assists and Winther adding 17. 

The game against Armstrong ended regular season play.  The White Hawks are seeded fifth and will play their first post season game at Jordan on Wednesday October 22nd.
