The White Hawks celebrated an improbable 8-7 walk off playoff victory over DeLaSalle
Section playoff recap from head coach Pat Regan:
"Our 2025 season sadly came to an end this past week, but it wasn't without two exciting games in section play that demonstrated this group's never quit attitude that they showed the last three weeks of the season. On Tuesday, we hosted DeLaSalle in round 1 of the Section 6AAA tournament, and we found ourselves in a hole right away after DeLaSalle jumped out for three runs in the first inning. After that, Jacob Nye settled in and competed at a high level for us the rest of the game. DeLaSalle was able to string together a few more hits and runs in the top of the 7th to extend their lead to 7-0 going into the bottom of the 7th inning. After one quick out in the bottom of the 7th, the next sequence of events that occurred is one of the craziest that I have ever seen in my time around the game of baseball. Cole Drill legged out an infield single, and Isaiah Walker blasted a two run home run to make it 7-2. A couple of walks later, Mason Sebasky belted a triple that made it 7-4. Cole Munsterteiger followed that with a single that made it 7-5. After another out was recorded, we were down to our last strike and Max Kraay delivered the biggest hit of the season, a two strike two out triple that tied the game at 7. Isaiah Walker came up next and battled to a full count and hit a ground ball to the third baseman who couldn't make the play, and we walked it off after storming back from down 7-0. They say hitting is contagious, and this group proved that in the most exciting way to close out the first game of sections.
Our bats would unfortunately go quiet for round 2 of section play, as we were held in check by a very good Delano team and ultimately fell 12-2 to the Tigers. On Saturday, we played Minneapolis Edison in round 3 of the section tournament in a win or go home game. It was another great game, and we had a great start on the mound from Cole Munsterteiger. Our bats came out hot and we were able to scratch three runs across right away. Unfortunately, we couldn't keep the bats going and we found ourselves down 5-4 heading into the bottom of the 7th. Once again, we were down to our last strike with a runner on second base, and once again Max Kraay delivered a clutch two out single to right field which ultimately tied the game at 5. We had a couple of chances to get the winning run across, but ultimately couldn't get the job done. Edison scored three runs in the top of the 9th inning and we were unable to muster up any additional magic, falling 8-5 to Edison.
It certainly wasn't the result we wanted, but those games proved that this group of kids have the heart of champions, as they never gave up and continued to fight until the last pitch. We will miss our ten graduating seniors greatly, as they demonstrated tremendous leadership throughout a season filled with adversity. This group of seniors will have a great impact on the world, and I am excited to follow along their journeys after they leave Westonka. Thank you seniors for everything, and thank you parents, fans, the Westonka community and anyone who followed along this year! Go White Hawks!"
