The Westonka baseball squad played three games on the week, going 2-1 and winning both games in a rain-shortened Delano Wood Bat Tourney.

On May 13, the White Hawks hosted the Holy Family Fire and honored 10 seniors on Senior Night. The Fire bats came out hot, and they put up nine runs in their first at bats. Although the White Hawks kept playing the game and not the score, the deficit was too much and they suffered a 15-7 loss.

“Tuesday was a special day, as we were able to recognize and celebrate our 10 amazing graduating seniors on Senior Day," said head coach Pat Regan. "The result of the game wasn't what we were hoping for, but the team showed some resolve by battling back against a good Holy Family team."

Seniors Isaac Aud, Mason Sebasky and sophomore Jacob Nye shared pitching duties on the mound, and seniors Mason Sebasky and Cole Munsterteiger both had good days at the plate with two hits apiece in the losing effort.

The White Hawks were slated to play a 5 p.m. opening-round game in the Delano Wood Bat Tourney on May 9, but Mother Nature had other plans, and both games that night were postponed. This resulted in a mini four-team tourney, with the White Hawks taking on the Minneapolis South Tigers in the first round.

The White Hawks took an early lead and were up 5-2 going into the sixth inning, but the Tigers rallied for two runs and cut the lead to one. The White Hawks got two important insurance runs in their half of the seventh on a clutch two RBI single from senior Auggie Novack and held on for a 7-5 victory.

Senior Cole Munsterteiger got the start and pitched a solid 5 2/3 innings for the win, while senior Isaac Aud shut the door, getting a big strikeout to squelch a rally and earning the save. Seniors Max Kraay and Auggie Novack, and sophomore Jacob Nye powered the offensive attack, as each drove in two runs for Westonka.

The White Hawks faced the winner of the other semi-final game in the Kasson Mantorville Komets in the finals. The Komets grabbed a 2-0 lead, but the White Hawks answered with one run of their own to cut the lead in half at 2-1. The White Hawks then scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-2 lead. Westonka gave up a meaningless run in the top of the seventh and persevered for a 5-3 win.

Sophomore Jacob Nye went the distance on the mound for a complete game victory, striking out four while surrendering only four hits and two walks to the Komets. Senior Jameson Damato and sophomore Jacob Nye both collected two hits to lead the White Hawks.

“Despite the weather being cold and rainy, the boys came out on Saturday and played two of the best games of the year," said Regan.
"We had great starting pitching from Cole Munsterteiger and Jacob Nye in our two games. We complemented our starting pitching by executing some small ball in big situations to get some runs across, and we never looked back from there."

"We look to build on those two games as we head into the final week of the regular season," Regan added.

The White Hawks will conclude the regular season by traveling to Tartan High School on Wednesday, May 21, and hosting DeLaSalle High School at Soule Field on Friday, May 23.
