Senior Cole Munsterteiger controls his Scott West opponent on his way to a second-period pin.
The Mound Westonka White Hawks wrestling squad traveled to Glencoe-Silver Lake High School on Jan. 16 for a double dual with the host Panthers and the Scott West Panthers. The White Hawks faced Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie in the first round, and after building a lead in the lower weights, were unable to hold on, losing 39-33.
“We didn’t get the flip, where we could have manipulated a few matchups," said head coach Todd Munsterteiger. "We wrestled about as well as we could have, we just needed to find another win somewhere."
In the second dual, the White Hawks were able to win three matches, but they fell 48-17 to state-rated Scott West. Winning both matches on the evening were junior Phill Pisarchuk and senior Cole Munsterteiger.
On Jan. 18, the White Hawks traveled to Howard Lake for the HLWW Invite and placed ninth out of 13 teams. “We were down a few guys, but wrestled pretty well overall," said assistant coach Eric Rodelius. "Hopefully we can get everyone back for the duals when it really counts."
Placing for the White Hawks were: Brady Kirkpatrick, sixth place; Mason Merrit and Al Zuniga-Lopez, fifth place; Phillip Pisarchuk, third place; and runner ups Deacon Ramthun and Cole Munsterteiger.
The White Hawks will be back at action with another double dual on Thursday, Jan. 23, when they travel to Orono to take on the Spartans and Benilde-St. Margaret’s. Start time is 5 p.m.
