The Mound Westonka wrestling squad was back in action Jan. 4, when they traveled to Norwood Young America for the NYA Central Invite. The White Hawks had a strong showing, placing fourth out of 12 teams, and placing seven wrestlers in the top six.

“This was a good tournament to shake the rust off after a much-needed break," said head coach Todd Munsterteiger. "I thought we wrestled well and we look to keep improving as we hit the stretch run before sections."

Placing for the White Hawks were: Mason Merritt, 6th place; Phill Pisarchuk, 4th place; John Seemann, 3rd place; Cole Munsterteiger, 2nd place; and champions Deacon Ramthun, Brady Kirkpatrick and Cooper Rowe. Rowe was also named the outstanding wrestler.

The JV and girls squad also competed in the Central Invite, with juniors Gabe Brown and Carson Crandall earning championships.  “This was a good tourney to get our kids some matches; many of them hadn’t seen the mat in three weeks,” said assistant coach John Wardlow.

The White Hawks will resume action Thursday, Jan. 9, when they host Watertown-Mayer for Youth Night. The JV squad will wrestle at 5:00, youth at 6:00, and varsity at 7:00 p.m.
