On Dec. 14, the White Hawks girls and boys hockey teams partnered to host the annual Hockey Against Hunger event. This marked the 22nd year in this long-standing tradition of the Westonka hockey teams, family, friends and hockey fans coming together to give back to the community.
Captains of each team spent time at the collection table, helping gather, collect and organize the many donations that came in. This year, generous hockey fans, players and families donated an incredible 312 lbs of food to the Westonka Food Shelf. They also collected cash donations, which gives the food shelf $9 in buying power for every $1 donated.
It was a great day of hockey, and a great way to give back to the community that supports our athletes all year. Event co-chair Sherri Bode said, “The Hockey Against Hunger event was a great collaboration between the Westonka boys and girls high school hockey teams to support our local food shelf and community in a time of great need.”
“Thank you to everyone that put this tremendous event together and worked to make Hockey Against Hunger a success," added boys head coach Jeff Degree. "We always welcome the opportunity to work with the girls program, especially for such a great cause.”
