The White Hawks boys hockey team won their home opener against the St. Peter Bulldogs on Nov. 22, with a final score of 5-4.
The Bulldogs got the first goal of the game early in the second period. Junior Collin Hagen found the net a few minutes later to tie, but the Bulldogs came back with two more goals. Hagen scored again with less than two minutes left in the second period, and a goal seconds later by senior Blake Decker tied the score at 3 heading into the third period.
Once again, the Bulldogs scored and the White Hawks answered, this time with a power play goal by junior Liam Grant. That was quickly followed by a goal from junior Wes Foley, putting the White Hawks ahead for the first time. They held the lead until the end.
Senior Auggie Novack tallied two assists in the game. Grant, junior Logan Hill, senior Luke Poikonen, senior Tyler Anding, junior Theo Karr and junior Luke Sunnarborg had one assist each.
The JV boys pulled off a tie, thanks to sophomore David Kalis’ goal with less than 2 minutes on the clock. Also scoring in the 3-3 game were sophomore Brendan Rashleger and junior Colton Decker.
Both teams play again at home on Saturday, Nov. 30 vs. St. Paul Academy and Summit School. JV action starts at 1 p.m. Varsity plays at 3 p.m.
