The Westonka-Holy Family (WHF) girls swim and dive team hosted Orono on Sept. 17. While Orono isn’t in the Wright County Conference, they are one of the tougher teams WHF will face this season, and face again at state.
The meet got off to an exciting start, with WHF touching-out Orono in the 200 medley relay by two hundredths. Ninth grader Mia Dongoske, sophomore Rachel Betts, senior Camille Ness and sophomore Laney Hendrickson swam a 1:55.62, WHF's fastest medley relay of the year. After the first event, however, Orono had the upper hand most of the night, winning the meet 105 to 81.
Junior Erica Johnson continued to dominate on the diving board, winning with a score of 218.65—not her season best (230.95), but enough to win the day. For the second meet in a row, senior Annemarie Johnson won the 500 Free with a 5:26.20, dropping 6.09 seconds off her time from the previous outing. Also worth noting, ninth grader Mia Dongoske and sophomore Rachel Betts went one and two in the 100-yard breaststroke with times of 1:10.99 and 1:12.13, respectively.
The WHF ladies will be back in the Westonka pool on Thursday, Sept. 19, hosting Dassel-Cokato.
