The Mound Westonka/Southwest Christian girls hockey team claimed second place in the Section 5A Tournament, concluding a terrific season. The White Hawks went 18-8-1 overall in their first year under head coach Larry Olimb.

The White Hawks defeated Breck 3-1 in the section semifinal at home on Feb. 10. Goals by eighth grader Marion Omann and sophomore Brelynn Koehler put the White Hawks up 2-0 after two periods. Breck got on the board with a power play goal in the third, but an empty netter by sophomore Georgia Harmer solidified the win for the White Hawks. Senior goalie Ashlyn Roth had solid play in the net with 24 saves.

In the section championship game Feb. 14, the White Hawks faced off against 2023 state runner-up Orono at the St. Louis Park Rec Center. The Spartans came out strong, scoring two goals in each of the first two periods. White Hawks senior Claire Bolen ended the shutout with a goal in the third period. One more goal by Orono made the final score 5-1.

Congrats on a great season, White Hawks!
