Our White Hawks sports teams had a great 2021 fall season.

Girls Soccer

The White Hawks finished with a 8-8 regular season and were 8-9 overall. That is tied for the best regular season in the past 15 years. Senior captains Megan Wanner (MVP, All-Conference), Quinn Jensen, Libby McCue (All-Conference Honorable Mention) and Anna Elliot provided not only amazing leadership this year, but set the stage for the 15 juniors that are coming up next year. Highlights for the year were wins versus teams that we had never beaten in the past, including Monticello, Waseca and New Ulm. We also played new teams, such as St. Peter and Mayer Lutheran, in which we also had victories. Additional highlights for the season were impressive play from both the JV and C squads. Because of our numbers, there were quite a few players moving from team to team, which translated to success on all squads. The JV squad compiled an impressive 13-2 record. Members from the C squad played with JV to aid in their success, as did JV players contributing to the varsity team’s success. Award winners were Annika Hoisington as Program Most Improved, Natalie Miner as Varsity Most Improved, and Megan Wanner as Varsity MVP. Next year’s captains will be Alaina Mather and Alicia Hatlestad.

The White Hawks had 39 players on three teams: varsity, JV and JV-B. The White Hawks had a great season led by captains Ellerie Anderson, Meagan Mattson and Coco Sir. Varsity was 9-8 overall and 3-1 in WCC-East (second place). The team had four All- Conference players: Sara Funderburk (11th), Meagan Mattson (12th), Ellerie Anderson (12th), and Savannah Paul (9th), and one All-Conference Honorable Mention, Ellen Pruitt (11th). Additionally, they had the highest team GPA average (3.95) that we have ever seen and qualified for the state Gold Academic Team Award. Three seniors earned Academic All-State: Lauren Hildahl, Montana Courneya and Meagan Mattson. The team voted ninth-grader Savannah Paul as MVP. Ellerie Anderson, Savannah Paul, Meagan Mattson, Sydney Leonard (11th), Ellen Pruitt and Sara Funderburk (pictured below) competed in individual Sections. Great work this year, girls!

Volleyball

The White Hawks improved tremendously from last year, even with being bumped to the east side of the conference and up another class for Sections. They ended with a 9-18 record. Highlights included beating Dassel-Cokato in four games over Homecoming, and Minneapolis South in five games on Senior Night. Senior Hannah Drill also received her 1000th career set assist during the win against Providence Academy. Lastly, the girls earned the Academic All-State Silver Team Award, which is an average G.P.A. of 3.5 to 3.74.

Boys Soccer

This was a difficult season due to the amount of injuries we endured. However, thanks to the leadership of senior captains Michael Doshan, Owen Beckley and Manu Jordan and junior captain Dylan Mather, the White Hawks finished second in the Wright County Conference. During the regular season, we compiled an excellent 9-2-4 record, finishing at 9-3-4. Senior Michael Doshan, junior Dylan Mather and sophomore Sam Holmberg were named to the All-Conference team. Michael Doshan also earned All-State Honors, his second year in a row, and is our first player to get nominated in two different classes (A and AA). Our JV team had an outstanding season and compiled a 14-0-1 record. In addition, JV coach John Thomas was named the Section 5 Assistant Coach of the Year. Lastly, our C Squad also had an awesome season, finishing with a 7-1-2 record while improving with each game. Thirteen varsity players received Academic Excellence Awards from the Minnesota High School Soccer Coaches Association for having a GPA over 3.5. Next year’s captains are Dylan Mather (returning), Logan Kevitt, Payton Kasper and Sam Holmberg.

Cross Country

Senior Lance Nemecek and junior Laura Sunnarborg earned Academic All-State honors, and both the boys and girls cross country teams earned Academic Gold! Our team won 10 meets (six for girls, four for boys - both school records) and had five second-place finishes in meets that had an average of 14 teams. The White Hawks had six All-Conference runners and five All-Conference Honorable Mentions. Our girls team advanced to state and finished ninth after being seeded and ranked 14th. Both teams finished second in conference to those darn Delano Tigers! Lance Nemecek was the outright Conference Champion for the WCC East.
