In its first season of playing games, the White Hawks boys lacrosse team exceeded expectations for a brand new program.

In our first season of playing games (we did not play any games in spring 2020), MWHS Boys Lacrosse exceeded expectations for a brand new program.  This team overcame adversity (namely getting their program started during a pandemic), they competed in every game, and made their community and families really proud of their efforts!

Led by nine senior student athletes, our varsity team managed to accomplish:

  • 6 Wins (Waconia 2x, Holy Family, Chaska, New Prague, Providence Academy)
  • Host and Win first ever playoff game on June 1 (Section 2, Waconia)
  • Third place finish in Wright County Conference
  • Demonstrate TEAM OFFENSE by having 7 players record double digit points
  • Demonstrate TEAM DEFENSE by allowing more than 10 goals in just 4 regular season games
  • Demonstrate HEART AND HUSTLE by going over 61% from the faceoff X
  • 13 players with cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, including two named to ALL-STATE ACADEMIC TEAM

The 2021 seniors did a commendable job leading, competing, and not giving up against some very strong competition.  As pioneers in this program (our youth association’s first players), they didn’t have a “template” to follow, had to find their own way and rise up to every challenge, which they handled really well.  They modeled how to be flexible during the pandemic, how to bounce back and get back to work after WINS and LOSSES,  and have laid the first row of our program’s foundation.  Their contributions will be the motor for this program for years to come. We are going to miss them a lot, and we know that their pioneering spirit will take them each very far!

Thank you and best of luck to our graduating seniors:

Matt Funderburk, Ethan Wagner, Lukas Witczek, Dominic Musel, Cole Deters-Spader, Devon Wilson-Noethe, Owen Rostis, Nic Riemenschneider, and Bode Applegate.

YEAR END “SHOUT OUTS”:

We would not have had the fun and successful season we did, were it not for the extraordinary support of so many.  Special appreciation from our program goes to: our Booster Club, Jeff Peterson, Lynne Peterson, Strength Coach Justin Arnold, Kai Schoen with OSR Physical Therapy, Dean Lundblad and Thaler Arena crew, Mark Mcyllmoyle, Applegate Family, Witzcek Family, Scott Bjorlin, Steve Baklund, Troy Anderson, Craig Butler,  the Banquet Planning Committee, our Parent Gameday Volunteers, and our generous donors and supporters -- Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
